What is a Sports Massage?
Sports Massage is a type of massage that focuses on pain and injuries to muscles and other tissues of the body associated with sports or with any other type of strenuous activities. It consists of a “stronger” massage than a Classic Therapeutic Massage – one that stimulates deep into muscles. Firm and fast rhythmic strokes exerted on different groups of muscle tissue increase blood circulation in areas of pain and facilitate repair of damaged tissues. Some sports massage movements include trigger point therapy to break down knots in the muscles. It is the most effective therapy for releasing muscle tension and restoring balance to the musculo-skeletal system.
Sports Massage in our Practice
In our practice Sports Massage Sessions are setup primarily to help over-exerted muscles recover, and to alleviate soreness. We do spend extra time to complete your anamnesis (or health and pain history), like we do with other therapies (see Classic Therapeutic Massage), before starting a treatment.
We are neither sports traumatologists nor physiotherapists. In this respect, we might have to refer you to one of them for injuries that are out of our field of competence.
What will a Sports Massage do for you?
- Improve blood flow to the muscles which help them heal
- Increase muscle temperature
- Help eliminate muscle soreness after workout
- Relieve muscular spasm
- Improve your flexibility and range of movement
- Reduce heart rate and blood pressure
- Reduce cortisol levels (a stress hormone)
- Reduce fatigue
- Cut your recovery time in half
Our experienced, licensed/certified/registered* Massage Therapist will carefully customize the right massage treatment to best fit your needs.
