What is a Classic Therapeutic Massage ?
There are different types of therapeutic massages, depending on the techniques that are used and the part of the body that is treated. Cranio-Sacral Therapy, Reflexology, Deep Tissue Massage or even Shiatsu are only a few examples. They all aim at improving our health by acting on the different systems of our body (muscular, nervous, circulatory…).
In our practice we offer a “Classic Therapeutic Massage”, which is a full-body massage provided by a licensed massotherapist, using techniques inspired from the Swedish Massage. The main purpose of Swedish massage is to increase the oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles (it was developed in the 1700’s by a Swedish doctor). Ultimately we are able to diagnose muscle spasm and tightness, mobilize fluids and stimulate the release of toxins.
Therapeutic Massage in our Practice
Before giving you a treatment, we will spend extra time to complete your anamnesis – asking specific questions about your current or past health complaints. Typically we will gather information about pain, if any (the “Chief complaint”, or your major concern at the time of the session), past medical history, past injuries, allergies, etc. and about the level of stress in your life, since stress is an important trigger of pain. The treatment plan may then include further investigations with the purpose of clarifying the diagnosis. More advanced massage techniques are likely to be used for pain and chronic health issues, while we do focus on relaxation too.
